Long time Comanche resident Jim Roberts, and his sister Betty Ruth Roberts Carruth celebrated their October birthdays Saturday, October 5th at the Austin House at Brennan Winery.
Their parents were Carl and Minnie Tate Roberts, long time Comanche County residents in the Mercer Creek/ Newburg area.
Betty was a member of the Comanche High School Class of 1946 and is celebrating her 90th birthday. Recently, she donated her cheerleader uniform to the Comanche Museum. The uniform, as well as several of the other cheerleader uniforms were made by Minnie Roberts. She and the girls took the bus from Comanche to Brownwood to buy the material.
Betty received her PHD in nutrition and retired as department head from University of Tennessee.
Jim was a member of the CHS Class of 1942 and will celebrate his 95th and has lived and worked in Comanche County most of his 95 years. He owned the Heartland Fire and Casualty insurance business and managed Heartland Life Insurance. He has been very involved in Comanche County and worked as a personnel manager for the Proctor Dam when it was built, with the Comanche Noon Lion’s Club and is a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge.
Betty now lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado near her daughter Carla Querner.
