Presented by David Erickson, Executive Director of the Angelo State SBDC and The Business Factory. Dave joined the Small Business Development Center in 1999 as a business advisor and has served as Director since 2005. He holds the Certified Business Advisor IV designation. He has 20 years experience in managing businesses. Dave received a BBA in Marketing from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA in Management from Angelo State University. The Business Factory is a general office incubation program designed for small businesses and entrepreneurs who enjoy the networking benefits and atmosphere of a professional environment with traditional business incubator space but want a flexible short or long-term lease. Clients are provided with essential tools, expertise, and networking opportunities to help small businesses and entrepreneurs operate and grow their business..
Business Retention & Expansion Strategies
Presented by Janie Havel, Community Relations Specialist with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Janie has worked for the Governor’s Office for almost 13 years and specializes in business resource development, strategic planning and community outreach.
Loan Programs & Funding Resources
Presented by John Powell, Area Director with the USDA Rural Development. John graduated from ACU in 2002 with a degree in Agribusiness. In February 2003, Powell began his career with USDA Rural Development as a Loan Assistant in the Texas State Office in Temple. In October 2010, John was promoted to Area Director where he oversees operations in three offices in Abilene, Brownwood and Ozona. These offices cover thirty-three counties in West Central Texas and the Concho Valley, providing funding for rural communities in the areas of business, community, infrastructure, and housing. Additional organizational resources will be explored during this session.
Tax Abatement, Special Zones & 380 Agreements
Presented by Russell Gallahan, Economic Development Program Director at Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. With over 25 years of experience in business and government, Russell Gallahan is advisor to state and local officials on issues related to economic development. Through his affiliation with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, Gallahan is a noted lecturer and trainer for more than 1000 economic development professionals each year through courses sanctioned by the Texas and International Economic Development Councils. Gallahan is the director for the Texas Economic Development Sales Tax program, the largest dedicated source of funds for local economic development in Texas. In the hospitality and tourism industry, Gallahan was a business developer and hotel operator for projects in Austin (TX), Nashville (TN), and Orlando (FL). Gallahan also served as an adjunct lecturer at a community college.
