The members at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church collected and refurbished 71 bikes for the children of their sister church, Ven A El Iglesia, in Eagle Pass. Several folks in Comanche donated old and rusty bikes and they were transformed into usable bikes with new tires, seats and various repairs. Hundreds of residents donated bikes locally, church members made pickups and deliveries and CHS Auto Tech, Robotics and SkillsUSA students did most of the repairs with parts purchased by the generous donations of the church members. Mt. Pleasant members traveled to Eagle Pass on Wednesday, December 12 to deliver the bikes as well as food gifts for the families present. Two pickups and trailers hauled these gifts. Larry Thompson and Norman Rogers pulled trailers and Kent Fails, Billy Joe Medina, Wanda Clyde, Catrina Rodgers and Pastor Dan Connally made the trip. In an effort to give locally, Mt. Pleasant also donated new bikes to Santa’s Helpers and the “leftover” bikes will be placed with local children in Comanche County. The Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church youth also participated in the cleanup, and “wrapping” of the bikes.
