melons

Comanche County is in full harvest for great local produce. Stephens’ Indian Creek Farms and Sorrells Farms are two busy places of business in Comanche County right now dealing with one of the largest melon crops ever due to abundant rainfall. Rodney Stephens said, “It’s not only one of the largest harvests ever, but one of the latest harvests I remember, about 10 days later than in the past. Trucks and smaller vehicles were lined up at both operations from small vendors to 18-wheelers loading melons destined for large chain grocery chains such as United, Aldi’s, Sam’s, Wal-Mart, Sprouts, and New York City where the fruit will be cut into bite-size pieces for packaging. Due to hail damage in West Texas, buyers are coming to Comanche County for melons this year.
