Daughters of the Republic of Texas The Bosque River Chapter of DRT met on May 14 for the installation of officers for the 2019-2021 term. The officers are: President Judith D’Amico, Vice President Gloria Lietz, Secretary Sheridyn Morgan, Treasurer Celia Shackelford, Registrar Toni Morgan, Historian Gwen Swink, Chaplain Mary Mercer. The officers were installed with a ceremony led by District II representative Linda Jackson of Wichita Falls. Jackson also gave an update on the organization at the state level. Members participated in a program by telling one fact about their ancestor who came to Texas during the period of the Republic, prior to 1846. Several members had ancestors who were at the Siege of Bexar in 1835 so it seems likely they knew each other. Others had ancestors who guarded the baggage during the Battle of San Jacinto and were surely known to each other. Two members had ancestors living in Waco in 1850. Others had ancestors who first came to Texas with Sam Houston. All those little connections in the past are interesting and make us feel even closer to our DRT sisters.
