McAfee

Wallace Lionel McAfee Jr., 83 of Comanche, TX passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 as the result of an automobile accident.

Known to most as just Wally, you could say without question he never met a stranger. Ask anyone that knew him and you would get a recurring depiction of an outgoing optimist, with a infectious positive attitude.

His smile warm personality and small town talk could light up any room. It was an honor to be known and loved by him. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Wally was born in Graham, Texas on November 11, 1937 to Wallace (Cotton) L. McAfee and Sadie Eddleman McAfee. He was baptized on April 9, 1939.

They later moved to Lubbock, Texas where he spent his childhood growing up. He attended First Methodist Church.

He graduated Lubbock High School and later attended and graduated Texas Tech University in 1960. Wally met Ella Marie (Rita) DeLaune McAfee at Texas Tech and they were united in marriage on May 21, 1960 in Lubbock.

After joining the Marines, his service to our country landed the couple in several places before eventually moving and settling in Houston, then Conroe, Texas where he worked in the oil and gas industry. Here he would develop friendships and create long and lasting relationships with his colleagues in business.

Wally was preceded in death by his wife Rita in 1998 and his parents.

Wally remarried Jane Sanderlin McAfee of Dallas on June 11, 1999. They continued living in Conroe before retiring and moving to Comanche, Texas in 2013.

Wally was an avid tennis player and golfer and lived an active retired life. He could enjoy a great game of golf regardless of the weather. You could find him enjoying the swing on the coolest or warmest days. It was truly was his passion. He enjoyed sports and was quite the willing teacher to anyone with an interest in learning. He was also known to give a great tennis ball shoulder massage. I assure you that there will be many that will miss that.

He was known as “Poppy” to his granddaughter, great grand children and many more. Wally had a strong Christian belief, and exhibited a fulfilling passion for donating his time to the needs of his community.

He taught golf at PAR, delivered meals for the Community Rehab Project and feeding many at a Thanksgiving meal each year.

Survivors include three children from his first marriage. A daughter, Debbie McAfee Vanicek and husband Brian, son Wallace Lionel McAfee III and son Michael Roland McAfee.

His second wife Jane McAfee. A daughter Amy Christian, grand daughter Amanda Gillette and husband Steven. Four great grand children Emma Gillette, Easton Gillette, Eli Gillette and Madison Gillette.

In keeping with Wally’s wishes no formal service will be held but a Celebration of Life will take place at the PAR Country Club in Comanche, Texas on Wednesday, February 17 at 2:00 pm. PAR is at 1658 Hwy 2861, Comanche, Texas 76442. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “The Wally McAfee Junior Golf Clinic” at PAR Country Club.

A memorialization page will also be set up on his Facebook account for friends and family to leave condolences and share stories and pictures.

A final reflection- His perfect day was staying active at Comanche Physical Therapy, lunch with his friends at the Senior Citizen Center and a tee time with his golf buddies.

Remember this when he crosses your mind knowing he lived and enjoyed a joy filled life and an uncompromising acceptance of all who had the privilege to cross paths with Wally McAfee.

This was Wallace Lionel McAfee, Jr.
