The two owned a farming and ranching operation northwest of Kress where they raised four children: Wayne, Denise, Dana and Blayne. Carolyn was a competitive horsewoman and an active and respected member of the community in and around Kress. She served Kress United Methodist Church as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and was active in Swisher County Home Demonstration Club and numerous county and sport clubs. As a nurse, Carolyn worked at the hospital in Hale Center, for Area Home Health out of Plainview, and Swisher Memorial Hospital and Home Health. At Swisher Memorial Home Health, she was much beloved by her patients, whom she served until her retirement in 2007. Carolyn then retired to the farm where she continued to garden, cook outstanding food, raise cattle, ride horses, and attend her grandchildren’s athletic and 4-H events as much as she could. She also was an avid fan of Dallas Cowboys football.
