Mary Vera, 75, of De Leon, passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior Sunday, October 13, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 11, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas to Manuel and Basilia (Betsy) Luna. Mary was united in marriage to Frank Vera on April 15, 1961, in Natalia, Texas. Frank preceded Mary on June 1, 2019.
Mary lived in the De Leon community most of her life. She was employed as an LVN for many years. She worked at the DeLeon Hospital, Gorman Medical Clinic, Cross Timbers Clinic, and CCS Hospice. She loved her work and the opportunity it provided her to help others in their time of need. Her patients always talked about her healing touch and how she gave the best
shots- the kind that didn’t hurt. Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her sweet grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandbaby. Hosting family gatherings and cooking for everyone brought her much joy. She looked forward to Easter every year, when she would buy several dozen confetti eggs for her grandchildren and Frank, just as she had done in years past for her own children. She always smiled and laughed at the children chasing each other and Frank around the yard, smashing the eggs over each other. She was even a good sport when she got confetti in her hair. She was especially proud to teach Ashley, Peyton, Rylie and Kimberly how to make tamales at Christmas time just as her mother had taught her.
Frank and Mary were long time members of the Assembly of God Church, De Leon. They attended church faithfully when their health allowed. The Lord, her Church and her church family were a priority in Mary’s life. She dedicated much of her time to serving in the Church. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for many years and loved attending prayer meetings, revivals, and helping with church meals. She held a special place in her heart for Adonna Otwell, as well as Pastor and Sister Munter, and cherished their friendships.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Ruby De Haan and husband, Ron; grandchildren, Kimberly and Lance Lampman, Tiara and Jason Stewart, Ashley and Clay Young, Clint and Kayla Vera, Josh and Sydney Patterson; great-grandchildren, Eric and Brooke Lampman, Cody Lampman, Lynli Lampman, Kristen Stewart, Katie Stewart, Kacey Stewart, Peyton Young, Rylie Young, Wyatt Young, Kaydence Vera, Kylie Vera, Johnny Patterson, Kasen Patterson and great-great grandson, McLane Lampman; brothers and sisters, Herman and Lala Luna, Janie Luna, Frank and Hertha Luna, Anita Luna, Margie Audinwood, Raymond and Angela Luna, Josie and Don Fielder, Betty and Arthur Andrews, and Nora Taylor; sisters-in-law, Connie Vera and Linda Rodriguez; brothers-in-law, Rick and Sheri Vera and George and Amelia Vera; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
