“Summertime and the living is easy” – ha, ha, ha! To add to our daily jobs, there’s grass to mow! Due to all the wonderful rain we’ve had in Comanche County, the grass is still growing by leaps and bounds. The grass in our pastures is very tall now, but we all know that when the hot, dry part of summer gets here there will be the worry of grass fires. Let’s all be diligent in preventing these fires. Like Smokey Bear says, “Only YOU can prevent forest fires!”
The Chamber is already hard at work on the upcoming Comanche County Pow Wow, which will be in September. If you know of anyone who would like to have a booth at this event, call Virginia or Billy at the Chamber office 325-356-3233.
Congratulations to Madison Hagood on being named Heartland Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Madison, an outstanding pitcher for Oklahoma Christian, has excelled in all areas, including being a very sweet girl!
Also, Kye Tomlinson, another Comanche gal is competing for Miss Texas Rodeo Princess this weekend. Congratulations to these girls and their families! Comanche’s proud of you two!
Again, congratulations are in order to Kasey Middleton, CHS golfer, who is competing in the American Junior Golf Association’s Under Armour Jordan Spieth Tournament on the Trinity Forest Golf Course. This course is where the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament is held and is considered a tough course!
Some of the CHS Class of ’62 got together at the home of Sharon and Marvin McKinnon on Saturday evening. We had a very good time and were served a most delicious dinner. Hope to share some of the recipes with you soon, especially a fresh apricot dessert that was to die for!
And thanks to the McKinnons for sharing their home with us. And yes, we still think we were one of the best classes to ever graduate from Comanche High School!
