Dear Editor,

I was in council chambers when the word came that a major water main break had occurred. What a really great example of leadership from Mayor Mary Boyd, County Judge Stephanie Davis and so many more that activated emergency measures. There were so many who worked through the night and some would not go home when relief came to help. The next day there were porta potties lined up on grand street north of the courthouse along with untold pallets of water. Also, a tanker with water for those necessities other than drinking water. Volunteers stayed up all night to provide water for those who needed it. Our police department provided security for those late night volunteers and to make sure the water was not improperly obtained.

An example of our mayor and county judge reacting was through emergency disaster declarations. Those declarations are there for you to read in last week’s chief. We owe so much to so many who turned out to help. To all of you who did anything, no matter what, to help our city get through this event, THANK YOU ALL FOR WHAT YOU DID.
