Over the weekend, 3 local Comanche County youth attended their first 4-H State Indoor Archery match.
The match was held on Friday and Saturday in Graham, Texas and was one of 5 locations for this year’s state tournament. Allyson Johnson, a freshman at De Leon High School, competed in the Compound Aided Senior bow division and is just beginning her archery career. This is Allyson’s first major archery competition. Allyson shot a score of 380.
Tyson and Cody DeAx, freshman at Comanche High School, have been competing in archery for two years. They recently competed at the Houston Stock Show archery contest. This was their first year to compete at Indoor Archery Match. Both boys competed n the Senior NASP Genesis bow division and both achieved personal best scores. Tyson shot a score of 332 and Cody a score of 268.
The results are currently being tabulated from across the state and are expected to be in by the end of the week. 4-H Archery meets on Sundays at 3 PM behind the CCLA barn for practices and are open to youth 3rd grade and up. 4-H Archery gives youth numerous opportunities to participate and compete from the local level to National contests. Our archery team consists of about a dozen members that have the opportunity to compete at locations such as State fair of Texas, San Antonio, Houston, Brownwood, and Comanche just to name a few. Members can choose to attend as many or as few as they would like. Many individuals do not realize that there are also numerous college scholarship opportunities for shooting sports as well.
